Vitamin B6. Preventing a Stroke

Kelly, KIistler, Shih, Mandell, PREVENTING A STROKE--VITAMIN B6

"Background and Purpose--[Studies of populations] have described an association between low vitamin B6...independent of homocysteine [often blamed]...We investigated B6 status, homocysteine and inflammation...in patients with stroke and controls.

Conclusion--The relationship between inflammation and low B6 status may partially explain the findings of previous...studies [thereby identifying low B6 intake as a causative factor.]"

By Kelly, KIistler, Shih, Mandell, Furie, et al., from the Stroke Service & the Depts. Of Neurology & Biostatistics, Mass. Gen. Hosp., Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.

Suggestion: Rather than taking a B6 capsule, it is preferable to take a multiple vitamin tablet that contains at least 2 milligrams of B6 (most have more.) Taking a B vitamin alone could cause a deficiency of other B vitamins
