Ginseng vs. HRT

Drs. Duda, Taback, Alvarez, et al. Researchers at Harvard University Medical School have been testing American, Chinese and Korean ginseng as alternatives to Hormone Replacement Therapy, which is helpful to post-menopausal women but increases cancer risk.

They have found that American and Chinese ginseng both exhibited estrogenic qualities, presumably reducing age-related symptoms like heart disease effects, osteoporosis and anti-female characteristics. However, Korean ginseng increased the growth of tumor cells.

Drs. Duda, Taback, Alvarez, et al. Harvard Medical is in Boston, MA 02215. Reported at the Annual Meeting of the Assn. for Cancer Research, San Diego, CA, 3-97.
