Vitamin C Help Prevent Hypertention and Reduce Cholesterol

03-19-2004

Studies show that vitamin C helps prevent hypertension and atherosclerosis, as well as reducing cholesterol and increasing HDL, or "good," cholesterol. Studies on vitamin E are mixed but tantalizing; results from two large studies suggested an impressive reduction in risk (about 40 percent) of heart disease in both women and men who had high intakes of vitamin E (mostly from supplements). The B vitamins may also lower your risk, especially B6, B12, and folic acid, all of which reduce excess homocysteine in the blood. Calcium, chromium, and selenium may help lower your risk of heart disease, too.
